I've lived in Kansas most all my life, and I have been playing golf for most of it too. Even though Kansas is not necessarily known for its golf courses, I've had the opportunity to play a lot of Kansas golf courses and bring a lot of people in for little mini Kansas golf vacations, and I've heard no complaints (although I will admit it's no Las Vegas golf vacation - but what is). Since a lot of people don't get the chance to visit Kansas a lot, much less play golf, I thought I'd provide a little bit of information and advice just in case you ever do make it to Kansas and want to play a little golf.
Let me give you a little bit of background on playing golf in Kansas. First, if you show up in the summer time, prepare for it to be hot. Really hot. Like smoking hot. People tend to think it doesn't get that hot in Kansas, but it is nothing for it get up to 100 degrees on a hot summer day (typically July and August, but sometimes earlier or later). Dress accordingly. Second, get ready for a little breeze. Although not as windy as Texas, Kansas golf on most days is played with a breeze of some sort. Depending on the time of day and if a storm system is coming in, the velocity can vary (plan on at least 10-15 miles per hour though). And third, make sure you pick a good course to play. There are a lot of Kansas golf courses out there. Some are good, some are not so good. Unlike many other places, to really survive, Kansas golf courses need a lot of water. Some courses can afford it, some can't. That's why you should come here to see which courses you should actually play!
One great thing about Kansas, though, is that it is so big that there are great courses to play within driving distance of almost anywhere in the state. Whether out in the middle of no where in western Kansas or in the middle of Kansas City, golf is popular enough that at least one great golf course exists nearby. So don't fret if you get caught in Liberal, Goodland, Great Bend, Smith Center, or even Junction City. Great golf is always only a stone's throw away.
Like I said, although a Kansas golf vacation package is probably never going to be on par with a Las Vegas golf vacation package, there is very good golf here to play, and actually for a lot cheaper than you will probably find in many other places. And don't forget, Kansas has hosted women's U.S. Opens, Senior U.S. Opens, Amateur championships, and many other golf events. Don't let the reputation of Kansas prevent you from enjoying some great golf.
